My favourite hobby is music. Actually, I used to play bass in a Jazz-Fusion Band named Jade Avenue. These days I am not actively playing any more even though I take out my instruments and fool around with them a bit occasionaly. Instead I am now concentrating on collecting music and over the years I have built quite a CD collection. Another hobby of mine is photography and during the last 14 years I have taken photos at almost every concert that I have been to. As you might have guessed from the name of this web site my favourite genre of music is Jazz but I also enjoy all kinds of music. Jazz itself is actually a fairly general term that encompasses all kinds of musical styles. Many critics have tried to define what Jazz is and what isn’t. To me the essence of Jazz is simply any kind of music that is at least partly improvisational and both the musicians performing it and the audience interact with one another and have fun! My favourite styles include classic Bebop, Hardbop, Cool Jazz and Big Band as well as mordern styles like Fusion, Soul, Latin or World Music. Consequently you will find a great variety of musical styles in my CD collection which also includes the occasional Pop or Rock artist. On the top of my long list of favourite artists are great musicians like Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonius Monk, Art Blakey, Charles Mingus, Duke Ellington, Wayne Shorter and John Coltrane. My favourite bands include the Yellowjackets, Uzeb, Spyro Gyra and Incognito. Being a bass player myself there are also quite a few electric bass players that I really like, e.g. Marcus Miller, Anthony Jackson, Alain Caron, Victor Wooten, Gary Willis, John Patitucci, Melvin Lee Davis, Steve Bailey, Tetsuo Sakurai, Jaco Pastorius and Will Lee to name just a few.
